 ASOPA is very excited that Ruby Tebelak and other interested artists
have formed the Portrait Art Society, the Charter Chapter of ASOPA.
This Chapter will provide an excellent opportunity for local and
regional artists of the San Francisco Bay area to gather and further
the Mission of ASOPA by instructing, motivating and sharing knowledge
with all who desire to learn the art of portraiture.
Ruby has done an excellent job and deserves real commendation in
forming this group, and for the new Portrait Arts Society to serve
as the prototype for future Chapters of ASOPA. Ruby responded to
a question and challenge presented at the ASOPA regional portrait
seminar and workshop at The Academy of Art College in San Francisco
in August 1999. At that meeting, Ruby suggested and asked if ASOPA
would consider sponsoring local ASOPA chapters. Arnold McRae, President
of the American Society of Portrait Artists, responded
and said that the formation of ASOPA Chapters across the country
would be an excellent way to benefit local artists and further the
Mission of ASOPA. He invited all interested artists to come forward.
